Americans Win Halloween Thriller

Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans beat the Tulsa Oilers 4-3 in a shootout on Wednesday night. Allen was seeking their fourth straight victory and third straight against Tulsa, while the Oilers were still in the hunt for their first win.

The Americans struck early in the first; when Darryl Bootland scored his fifth of the season. The goal, came only 1:30 into the game, and was assisted by Daniel Tetrault and Alex Lavoie.

Mike Berube netted his first goal of the year at the 10:27 mark of the first, from Kale Kerbashian and Garret Klotz giving the Americans a quick 2-0 lead. Tulsa answered back before the first intermission scoring at the 17:33 mark when Michele Beausoliel slid the puck past American goalie Bryan Pitton. Assists on the Tulsa goal were given to Todd Robinson and Craig Cescon. Allen led in shots by a count of 10-6 at the end of the first.

The second period saw each team find the back of the net. Corey Tamblyn scored his first goal of the season at 14:36 in the second period, the lone assist going to Spencer Asuchak. Tulsa answered quickly with an unassisted goal by Ben Gordon after an Allen turnover at the 17:40 mark, closing the gap and leaving the score 3-2 going into the second intermission. Tulsa edged out the Americans in shots on goal, leading 13-10 after two periods of play.

Tulsa scored the only goal of the final period, when Ryan Cramer fired a shot that found its way past Bryan Pitton. Drew Fisher and Jake Obermeyer, drew the assist at18:56 of the third. Cramer's goal gave Tulsa their first shorthanded goal of the season, and tied the game 3-3. Tulsa outshot Allen 7-2 in the third period

Neither team could light the lamp in extra time, so the game was decided by a shootout. American's defenseman Tyler Ludwig notched the only goal and game-winner, giving the Americans a 4-3 shootout win. Tulsa outshot Allen by a count of 45-25 for the game. The victory keeps Allen in first place overall in the league with a record of 5-0-1.

The Americans will face the Denver Cutthroats this Friday, November 1st at the Allen Event Center at 7:05 p.m.
