The Lincoln Saltdogs used a great outing from starting pitcher Jarrett Gardner to roll past Wichita, 6-1, and into the American Association Championship Series against Pensacola. Gardner scattered five hits and struck out six through six shutout innings to notch his first victory of the postseason. Offensively, Lincoln set the tone early as 1B Phil Hawke hit a solo home run in the first inning against Wingnuts starter Will Savage to give the Saltdogs an early 1-0 advantage. The Saltdogs added a pair of runs in the fourth inning on back-to-back RBI singles by 2B Shea McFeely and 3B Brandon Jones to go up 3-0. Lincoln then put the game away in the eighth inning as C Shawn McGill cracked a two-out, three-run home run to extend the lead to 6-0. McGill led all hitters in the contest, going 2-for-3. Wichita did manage a run in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a solo home run by 3B Michael Thompson, narrowing the Wingnuts' deficit to 6-1. But that proved to be all they could manage as closer Chris Thompson came on in a non-save situation in the ninth and shut the door on any hopes for a Wichita comeback.
