Ambush Visit Baltimore for First of Four on the Road
January 16, 2014 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
St. Louis Ambush News Release
St. Charles, MO - The St. Louis Ambush (4-6) visit Baltimore for the first time this season to face the second-place Blast (7-2) Friday evening at 6:35 p.m. CT. Friday's contest is the first of two meetings between the Ambush and Blast during the 2013-14 regular season and is the only one in Baltimore. Fans can watch all the action on YouTube.
The Ambush, presented by Simmons First National Bank, return to regular season play Friday after winning friendlies on January 9 and 11. In their last regulation MISL game, the Ambush captured a dramatic 14-12 win over the Rochester Lancers on January 4 at the Family Arena. The Blast have won six in a row and are just one game behind the first-place Milwaukee Wave. Friday's duel at the Baltimore Arena is the first of four consecutive road games for St. Louis.
Baltimore ranks third in the MISL in goals scored (69) and has boasted an air-tight defense, along with the best goalkeeper performances in the league, allowing only 18 goals in nine games played this season. Blast goalkeeper William Vanzela has appeared in six games and has the league's second-lowest points against average (5.40) while teammate Troy Hernandez has appeared in three games and has the MISL's lowest points against average (2.33). Hernandez leads the league in save percentage (.857), while Vanzela ranks fourth (.788).
The Ambush will be counting on their top scorers, Odaine Sinclair (26 points), Mike Roach, Kory Dowell (17 points each) and Dan Antoniuk (16 points) to find a way to break through the Blast defense and find the back of the net.
The Ambush made a roster move this week, signing 24-year old St. Louis native Brandon Manzonelli, who played previously for the Atlanta Silverbacks (NASL) and New England Revolution (MLS). Manzonelli saw time in both friendlies on January 9 and 11 and looked particularly impressive. He contributed two goals against the Illinois Fire on January 9 and tallied a three-point goal, a two-point goal and an assist in the January 11 friendly against a Lindenwood Alumni squad. To make room for Manzonelli on the roster, the Ambush released Brian Groark.
Following Friday's battle in Baltimore, the Ambush make their first trip to Reading, Pennsylvania to clash with the Roar (0-11) on Sunday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for all remaining home games.
