Allentown Ambassadors News Release
The New Jersey Jackals continued their torrid hitting and outslugged the Allentown Ambassadors 12-7 Tuesday night at Bicentennial Park.
The Ambassadors actually led the game 1-0 after one inning. Jorge Diaz scoring on a Marlon Roche single. It was Roche's first at-bat coming back from being hit in the face last Friday night against Elmira.
But the Jackals struck for seven runs in the top of the second inning, sending ten men up to the plate against Ambassador starter Orlando Encarnacion. Mike Glendenning led off the inning with a single, then Carlos Pagan singled, followed by a two run triple by Chris Rowan into the light tower in center field. Then Keith Maxwell hit a two run home run, his fourth of the season, over the left field wall. John Anderson grounded out, then Craig Conway was hit by a pitch. Darren Blakely struck out for the second out, but then Joe Kerrigan walked and Travis Bailey doubled home Conway. Glendenning then singled for the second time in the game, driving home two, but he was caught in a rundown between first and second for the third out of the inning.
The Ambassadors would add in a run in the bottom of the second, but the Jackals scored three more in the top of the third to pull ahead 10-2. The Ambassadors would score three runs of their own in the bottom of the third off New Jersey starter John Sneed, including Ryan Bordenick's first home run of teh season, a two-run shot to left. The Ambassadors added another run in the fourth to pull within four runs, but that was as close as they would get. The Jackals added runs in the fifth and seventh innings, while the Ambassadors tacked on a run in the bottom of the ninth on Vic Davilla's fifth home run of the season.
Orlando Encarnacion gave up ten runs in three innings to get the loss, his third. Joe Magri pitched three innings in relief, allowing one run, to get his second win. Craig Conway was 3-4 with two runs, an RBI, 1 stolen base and one hit by pitch. The Jackals stole five bases in the game, all when Carlos Gomez was pitching in relief. The loss drops the Ambassadors to 10-12 on the season, now five and a half games behind New Jersey. The Jackals are now 15-7. The two teams go at it again tomorrow night, with John Dillinger taking the mound for the Ambassadors, to be opposed by Aaron Myers.
