Austin, TX 4/2/10- The Amarillo Venom dominated Friday night, walloping the Austin Turf Cats 71-20.
Turf Cats wide out Reggie Smith was Austin's lone bright spot, scoring twice in the first quarter via touchdown reception and kickoff return. Amarillo wide receiver DuVaughn Flagler had the Venom's only score and Austin led 13-7 after one quarter of play.
Amarillo dictated the tilt in the second frame, scoring four touchdowns to Austin's one. Running back Dontrell Moore collected his first of two scores in the contest (3-yard run), while wide out Alex Watson earned a 14-yard touchdown reception and a 1-yard rushing score. The Venom defensive unit forced two turnovers (forced fumble and an interception by Donta Bright), giving Amarillo the 34-20 lead at halftime.
The Venom flexed their muscles even more in the second half, outscoring the Turf Cats 37-0. The impressive Amarillo defense forced an additional four interceptions (by Donta Bright, Cedric Wilson, and two from Cashmin Thomas) that led to all but one Venom offensive score. Wide receivers Carl Johnson (twice) and Alex Watson (his third touchdown of the game) along with tailback Dontrell Moore (his second of the game) added scores for the Venom in the fourth quarter. Final score, Amarillo 71, Austin 20.
