
Aly & AJ to help celebrate WNBA's historic 10th anniversary season

NEW YORK, NY (Monday, May 15, 2006) - Disney's rising pop stars Aly & AJ are teaming up with the WNBA for a free, live performance at the world's only NBA Store on Fifth Avenue and 52nd Street in New York on Thursday, May 18 at 4:00 p.m. ET. The performance will celebrate the WNBA's historic milestone as the longest running and most successful women's professional team sports league in U.S. history. The league's 10th season tips off on Saturday, May 20 with games airing nationwide on ABC and NBA TV. ESPN2's "WNBA Tuesdays" coverage begins on Tuesday, May 23, with the first of five regular season doubleheaders.
Aly & AJ will perform songs from their first gold album entitled "Into The Rush," including their hit single "Rush" which appears in the WNBA's new brand campaign "Have You Seen her?" The campaign, produced by NBA Entertainment, features :30 and :60-second spots that underscore the depth and breadth of the WNBA athletes who play this game...multi-faceted role models, believers, dreamers, achievers, students, teachers, leaders, and champions. The spots can be seen on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, NBA TV, and AZN Television, as well as in English speaking markets worldwide.
In addition to the performance, NBA TV's Andre Aldridge and ESPN's Linda Cohn will lead a panel of WNBA Legends and players including Teresa Weatherspoon, Sue Wicks, Kym Hampton, Teresa Edwards and Alana Beard in a discussion regarding the overall growth of women's basketball and its impact in the world of sports. The discussion will air live on NBA TV.
The league also announced that tickets for the 2006 WNBA All-Star Game will go on-sale the morning of May 18 and fans will be able to purchase tickets at the NBA Store at this event. The 2006 WNBA All-Star Game, featuring the world's best women basketball players, will be played at Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Liberty, on Wednesday, July 12 with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. ET live on ESPN. With tickets starting at $10, fans can enjoy the unique experience of seeing the WNBA's superstars together in the league's premier event in The World's Most Famous Arena.
