Alumni Update: Clark Earns Alantic Hockey Honors; Mcleod scores first goal

HAVERHILL, Mass. - Army forward Owen Meyer was named the Player of the Week and goalie Jay Clark earned Rookie of the Week honors when the Atlantic Hockey Association released its weekly awards.

Meyer, a sophomore from Dundee, Ill., racked up four goals over the weekend, including his first collegiate hat trick, to help the Black Knights to a weekend sweep of American International.

Clark, a freshman from Baudette, Minn., made the most of his first conference start, turning away 23 shots in a 7-1 win against AIC on Saturday.

This marks the first conference honor for both players and Army hockey this season.

Meyer began his weekend with a goal Friday in a 4-3 win in Springfield, Mass., and then picked up his hat trick Saturday at Tate Rink when he scored three goals in the first two periods. Meyer's three-goal performance was the first by an Army player since Chris Casey accomplished the feat on March 6, 2004.

Clark did the rest from there, posting seven saves in the first period, 12 in the second and four in the final period for his first collegiate win and Army's first series sweep of the season.

Army is now 4-4-0 overall and 4-1-0 in Atlantic Hockey competition. The Black Knights are in second-place in the conference standings with eight points, one behind league-leader Bentley who visits Tate Rink for a series this weekend. Bentley is 4-2-1 overall and has nine points. Games Friday and Saturday will begin at 7:05 p.m.

Mcleod Scores First Collegiate Goal

Freshman Steve McLeod tallied his first collegiate goal with eight minutes showing on the clock in the third-period to get the Jackets' on the board. McLeod finished a barrage of Yellow Jacket shot attempts from right in front of the net, beating former Outlaw teammate Jay Clark. Army won the game 7-1.

Maginnis Named MCHA Freshman of the Week

Crookston, Minn.) - University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Hockey player Alex Maginnis (Fr., Fwd., Mason City, Iowa) has been named Freshman of the Week by the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA).

Maginnis scored three goals and added an assist for four points this past weekend at defending league champion Milwaukee School of Engineering. Two of his goals were of the power play variety. Maginnis leads the Golden Eagles with five goals and one assist for six points.

U of M, Crookston is 0-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the MCHA. They return to action this Friday and Saturday when they travel to Marian College for two MCHA games. The puck drops at 7:00 pm and 2:00 pm respectively.
