Indiana Ice Miners News Release

(Indiana, PA). Mid-Atlantic Hockey League founder and president Andrew Haines has announced that Altoona, PA former athlete Robert Eger returns to his roots with the purchase of the Indiana Ice Miners of the MAHL. Bob is a graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School where he was a three year letterman on the Marauder basketball team. He was a starter for the 1967 state championship team.

"After having lived away from the area for twelve years, the idea of coming back to what I love is exciting for me and for my wife Betsy (also from Altoona)," said Bob Eger. "My background is in sales and promotions and our goal is to make every Ice Miners game an event. We look forward to reconnecting with many family and friends in the area."

Robert Eger brings to the Ice Miners organization and the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League an accomplished background in media advertising and management. His advertising background includes over twenty years with WTAJ-TV in Altoona as General Sales Manager. Mr. Eger has a National Sales Management and Senior Business Analyst background as well.

During his career at WTAJ-TV, Bob stayed connected with sports by coaching basketball for 14 years at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and Bishop Guilfoyle High School. He was instrumental in promoting tournament participation such as "Slam Dunk on the Beach." This led to the founding of "The Great Chevy Shootout" through the help of his late "Uncle Chic" Ellis and long time friend and business associate Ron Rossi. The tournament still exists today through the untiring efforts of his brother-in-law Steve St. John.

A formal press conference to re-introduce Robert Eger to the Indiana area sports community is planned for later this month. The Ice Miners next home game at the S&T Bank Arena is this coming Sunday, January 6th when the Ice Miners host the Valley Forge Freedom at 4:00pm.
