2008 MAHL action begins tonight as Wooster hosts Mon Valley
Published on January 2, 2008 under Mid-Atlantic Hockey League (MAHL) News Release
(Canton, Ohio) The tenth week of MAHL action kicks off 2008 with six games on the schedule. The week begins tonight with the third place Wooster Warriors (17 pts) hosting the fourth place Mon Valley Thunder (15 pts). This has developed into one of the best rivalries in the inaugural season of the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League. Tonight is the seventh meeting of the year between the two teams. Wooster won the first two games and Mon Valley has won the last four. Every game in the season series has been determined by only one or two goals.
Although the Indiana Ice Miners are clearly the class of the MAHL in the early going with their impressive 19-1-0 record, only five points separate the second place Jamestown Vikings from the fifth place Valley Forge Freedom.
More MAHL Call-ups
Forwards Tom Boudreau and Peter Ferraro of the Indiana Ice Miners received the call to the Reading Royals of the ECHL on Tuesday (1/1/08). They became the sixteenth & seventeenth MAHL players to head to the "AA" leagues this season.
MAHL "Player of the Week"
Indiana's Tom Boudreau is the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League Player of the Week. The Oak Lawn, Illinois native scored seven goals and added an assist for eight points in three games last week. His efforts were rewarded with a call-up to Reading of the ECHL. Boudreau played last season in Europe. Tom played college hockey at Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh.
MAHL "Goaltender of the Week"
Dustin MacDonald of the Mon Valley Thunder is the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. MacDonald, originally from Rankin Inlet in Canada, won two games last week as the Thunder moved to within three points of second place Jamestown. MacDonald is playing his first professional season after playing last year at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. He also played three seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
