
Altitude to Host Local Player Tryouts

Asheville, N.C., October 12, 2003 - The Asheville Altitude will hold open tryouts for local basketball players Saturday and Sunday, October 25-26 from 9:00 a.m. â 6:00 p.m. at the UNC-Asheville Recreation Center.
Local tryouts, hosted by all six National Basketball Development League (NBDL) teams, provides an opportunity for players, at least 20 years of age, to compete for a chance to play professional basketball during the 2003-04 season. Following the local session and with league approval, qualified candidates from each local tryout could be invited to take part in team training camps that get underway in each NBDL city on November 8.
"Local tryouts are an excellent opportunity to make basketball dreams become reality," said Altitude head coach Joey Meyer. "Competing in the NBDL is a great opportunity for players looking to make it to the next level by competing against some of the best basketball players on the verge of the NBA."
Player tryouts feature a series of on-court drills, instruction and scrimmages allowing participants to showcase their talents. Applicants must be 20 years old and complete three registration forms along with submitting a $100 non-refundable fee to register. Tryouts are limited to the first 100 players to register and no incomplete registrations will be accepted. Once payment and forms are received at the Asheville Altitude Offices, 87 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801, applicants will receive a confirmation letter and final details about tryouts.

The Altitude opens the 2003-04 regular season at Columbus, Nov. 28, followed by the regular-season home opener against the Huntsville Flight, Nov. 30 beginning at 7:15 p.m. at the Asheville Civic Center.
The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), North Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.) and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).
The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Eighteen (18) players have been called up to the NBA on 22 separate occasions. Three former NBDL coaches have also been called up to the NBA since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The NBDL is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resource pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
