
Altitude Set for Interactive Squad Tryouts

ASHEVILLE, NC, September 3, 2002 - The Asheville Altitude will hold auditions to select the co-ed Altitude Interactive Squad and the team's official mascot, Friday and Saturday, September 6-7, starting at 6:00 p.m. at Vision Sports, 2623 Hendersonville Rd. in Arden, North Carolina.
The Altitude Interactive Squad, the team's official dance/cheer team, participate in cheer, stunt, dance and tumbling routines during the 25 home basketball contests. Members will consist of a dynamic group of dancers, cheerleaders, gymnasts and entertainers designed to deliver an exciting, high-energy combination of entertainment and continuous crowd encouraging presentations. The squad will also participate in various community service events scheduled throughout the season.
Auditions will also be held for the team's mascot, Alto. As the official mascot of the Altitude, Alto candidates should be enthusiastic, comical, acrobatic, and fanatic for the team. He/She will be the center attraction for the Interactive Squad during promotion and game-time entertainment.
Potential interactive squad and mascot candidates must be at least 18 years of age and possess cheer and/or dance skills with the ability to communicate effectively. Evaluations will consist of various choreographed dances and cheer routines including stunting, chanting, tumbling and slam-dunk testing for mascot candidates (props will be provided).
The Altitude opens preseason play November 9 against the Huntsville Flight, followed by a final preseason home opener November 11 versus the Columbus Riverdragons at 7:15 in the Asheville Civic Center.
The Altitude will open the 2002-03 regular season against the Fayetteville Patriots, November 15 followed by the home opener against the Huntsville Flight November 16.
Both games are scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. tip off time.
The Altitudes' season ticket packages are on sale now and feature numerous deals for all entertainment needs. Fans can purchase season ticket packages for Altitude home games by calling (828) 782-1000. Individual tickets are available in the following price ranges: $9, $12, $15, $30, and $35. Discounted tickets for children and senior citizens are also available.
The National Basketball Development League (NBDL) offers an opportunity for players to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Last season, eight NBDL players and one head coach, including the Altitudes' Jason Hart and Rusty LaRue, were called up to the NBA.
Designed to help grow the sport of basketball domestically and internationally, the NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 29 teams and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its team by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
