
Alpena powers past the U-17s

Alpena IceDiggers News Release
Alpena MI: With the help of two powerplay goals the Alpena IceDiggers defeated the USA U-17 team tonight at Northern Lights Arena in front of a rowdy crowd of 776 screaming fans.
Captain Nolan Craner (Plainwell MI) lead the way offensively with 2 goals and an assist, while line mate Todd Rudasill (Powell OH) chipped in 1 goal and 2 assists on the night. Mike DeGrazia (Novi MI) and Marco Ruggeri (St. Clair Shores MI) added the other IceDigger tallies. Ruggeri's goal was his first as an IceDigger.
Coach Kenny Miller was pleased with the effort but knows their is still work to be done. "I thought we controlled play for the most part, we were very good tonight I am proud of the guys. We have areas we need to be better and we will work on those next week in practice, the guys deserve the days off they are getting."
Left winger Drew Pierson (Pleasant Prairie WI) added 3 assists in the win while Eric Roman (West Bloomfield MI), Erik Peterson (Alpena MI), Justin Stadler (Livonia MI) and Kerry Bence (St. Clair MI) all chipped in 1 assist tonight.
Goaltender Mike Jarboe (Grosse Point Park MI) improved his record in an IceDigger sweater to 5-0 making 23 saves.
The IceDiggers finished the night going 2 -7 on the powerplay while USA was 2-8. Alpena is ranked first in the NAHL with a 21.74%, 35 of the 68 goals Alpena has scored have come with the man advantage.
The IceDiggers currently sit atop the North division standing with 25 points, Alpena holds a 6 point lead on second place Marquette and Mahoning Valley.
The IceDiggers will host the Traverse City North Stars on Friday before heading to Traverse City on Saturday to finish up a home and home series with the North Stars. The IceDiggers will sport special event camouflage jerseys next Friday, the jerseys will be auctioned off immediately following the game in the main bleachers. More information regarding the special event jerseys will be announced during the upcoming week.
