The Week Ahead: The teams with the top two records in the ALPB will meet this week as High Point (13-3) visits So. Maryland (11-4) in a mid-week series... That is the only inter-division match-up as the other four mid-week series will be contested within each division... The weekend series will feature another edition of the War of the Roses as York visits Lancaster.
The Week That Was: After tying the league record with 13 consecutive losses to start a season, Frederick rebounded with a three-game sweep of Lancaster over the weekend... Lancaster's Melvin Mercedes led all ALPB hitters with a .522 average (12-for-23) on the week... Charleston's Bobby Bradley drove in a league-high 11 RBI... Long Island's Joe DeCarlo had five doubles in six games... In six games, York's Tomo Otosaka had 12 hits, five runs, four doubles, seven RBI and five stolen bases.
Streaking: Lancaster's Melvin Mercedes has the league's longest active hitting streak at 11 games... York's Trent Giambrone has scored a run in eight straight contests... York's Alejandro Rivero has an active 14-game on-base streak... So. Maryland's Mitch Lambson has won three straight games while Ryan Dull of High Point has not allowed a hit in six consecutive appearances.
Mid-Week Marvels: Adeiny Hechavarria had three hits, four RBI, and four runs scored in a 13-9 win over York on 5/10... Tomo Otosaka hit .692 (9-for-13) for York in three mid-week games vs. Long Island... His nine hits were the most of any mid-week hitter... Long Island's Sam Travis blasted three homers, scored nine runs and added eight RBI vs. York... Fellow Duck Joe DeCarlo had four doubles and five XBH in the series... So. Maryland's Andre Scrubb picked up a pair of saves vs. Staten Island... Three Lancaster pitches combined to four-hit Charleston on 5/9 led by Brandyn Sittinger who struck out eight and allowed four hits over six innings... Frederick's Winston Lavendier allowed just one hit over seven innings in a 2-1 loss to Gastonia... Lancaster had six straight base hits during a five-run sixth in a 7-3 win over Charleston 5/10... Gastonia's Steven Moya had a pair of solo homers vs. Frederick on 5/11... Charleston's Telvin Nash hit his first home run of the year vs. Lancaster on 5/11, his 105th career homer in the ALPB... He is now eighth all-time in career homers... Lancaster's Chris Proctor hit an inside-the-park homer against Charleston on 5/11... Lancaster's Shawon Dunston, Jr. hit a lead-off homer vs. Charleston, his fifth time leading off a game with a blast.
Team Efforts: Long Island rallied from a 7-4 ninth inning deficit at York to tie the game and then scored six runs, all with two outs, in the 10th to beat the Revolution 13-9 on 5/10... Lexington snapped High Point's eight-game winning streak with a 2-0 win on 5/9... So. Maryland trailed Staten Island 8-4 in the ninth on 5/11 before scoring four in the ninth to tie then adding two in the 10th for the 10-9 win.
Weekend Wonders: Frederick's Craig Dedelow went 7-for-11 (.636) with three homers and nine RBI in Frederick's sweep of Lancaster... Dedelow slashed .667/1.545/2.212 for the series... Frederick snapped its season-opening 13-game losing streak with a 6-1 win over Lancaster on 5/12... Jose Marmolejos had three hits and three RBI to key Frederick's offense while David Kubiak fanned seven in 6.1 innings...Gastonia's Ian McKinney held High Point to a 0.59 batting average over his 5.1 innings on 5/12... Charleston 1B Bobby Bradley tied the league-high with six RBI vs. Lexington on 5/13... Chris Capuano's 10 strikeouts for Staten island vs. Long Island on 5/14 tied for the second-most by an ALPB hurler this year... Dustin Beggs of Frederick became the first pitcher to go the distance with his seven inning two-hitter of Lancaster on 5/14... Frederick slammed eight homers in three-games vs. Lancaster after having hit seven homers in its previous 11 games... Lancaster's Melvin Mercedes had a base hit in each of his final six at-bats in a twinbill at Frederick on 5/14... Gastonia's Zach Jarrett hit a pair of homers vs. High Point on 5/13.
Stats of Interest: High Point has homered in 14 of its first 16 games... Southern Maryland has round-trippers in 13 of its first 16 tilts... Staten Island has stolen at least one base in each of its 13 contests... Lexington has stolen at least one base in 14 of its 15 outings.
