All-Star Starters Shine: McCoughtry and Moore Earn WNBA Player of the Week Honors

NEW YORK, July 14, 2014 - Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream and Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx were named the WNBA's Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played July 7 through July 13.

McCoughtry - the Eastern Conference Player of the Month in June - led the Dream to a 3-0 record for the week with wins over Connecticut, Indiana, and Chicago. This marks McCoughtry's second Player of the Week award of the season and the 13th of her career. For the week, McCoughtry led the Eastern Conference in scoring (22.0 ppg), tied for first in steals (2.33 spg), and tied for fifth in assists (4.0 apg).

The recently voted Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star starter, McCoughtry opened her week with 22 points, four assists and six rebounds in a win over the Connecticut Sun on July 8. To finish out the week, she poured in a season-high-tying 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

Following her impressive week, McCoughtry now ranks third in the WNBA in scoring (20.0 ppg) and first in steals (2.3 spg).

For Moore, the leading vote-getter for Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star 2014, the Player of the Week award is her second of the season and the seventh of her career.

Moore helped Minnesota to a 3-0 mark for the week as the Lynx improved its record to 16-6, moving within 1.5 games of the Phoenix Mercury in the Western Conference. For the week, the University of Connecticut product led the league in scoring (29.7 ppg) and ranked third in rebounding (9.7 rpg). Moore was tied for second in the West in free throw percentage (.952, 20-for-21) and tied for third in blocks (1.0 bpg), while placing ninth in field goal percentage (.508, 33-for-65).

Moore opened her week with back-to-back games scoring 30 or more points. She tallied 30 points with six rebounds, three assists and two blocks in Minnesota's victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on July 8, which included a 16-point fourth quarter to help the Lynx rally for its second win of the season when trailing after three quarters. Two days later, she contributed 33 points against the Tulsa Shock, with 15 of those points coming in the first quarter. Moore has posted 30 or more points in eight games this season, marking the third highest single-season total in WNBA history (Diana Taurasi had 10 such games in 2008 and Lauren Jackson collected nine in 2007). To finish the week, Moore scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Minnesota's July 13 victory over Seattle, marking Moore's team-record 12th career game of 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds. The double-double was the 19th of her career and seventh this year.

For the season, Moore leads the league in scoring (23.7 ppg), ranks in the top ten in rebounding (8.2 rpg), and places fifth in steals (2.0 spg).

Other candidates for WNBA Players of the Week in the Eastern Conference were Chicago's Sylvia Fowles, Connecticut's Chiney Ogwumike, Indiana's Tamika Catchings, and Washington's Emma Meesseman. The additional candidate in the Western Conference was Tulsa's Skylar Diggins.
