Chicago Rush News Release

November 27, 2007 - The impressive Chicago Rush off-season became even more special when the team announced today the signing of All-Arena FB/LB Dan Alexander to a two-year contract.

One of the AFL's brightest young stars, Alexander (6-0, 265, Nebraska) was named First Team All-Arena last season with Nashville after rushing for a league-leading 426 yards and shattering the AFL record by scoring 41 rushing touchdowns.

"In just three years Dan has established himself as one of the most productive ball carriers our league has ever seen," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "He also is a quality person who will fit right in with this group of players. We can't wait for him to join us in training camp."

"I wanted to play for a team that will compete for the ArenaBowl every year, and Chicago definitely has a shot each and every year," said Alexander. "It doesn't hurt that I was born in Chicago and still have family in the area, which made me feel even more comfortable about the decision to join the Rush. In addition, with Bob McMillen in place as the fullback/linebackers coach, I feel this is a great opportunity for me to grow as a player."

A former First Team All-Big 12 running back at Nebraska, Alexander finished his career ranked 10th on Nebraska's all-time rushing list with 2,546 yards. He was a member of the Cornhusker teams that went 12-1 and won the Big 12 title in 1999, and the 10-2 team that defeated Northwestern in the 2000 Alamo Bowl - in which Alexander was named game MVP after rushing for an Alamo Bowl-record 240 yards against the Wildcats.

Upon his graduation, he was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round of the 2001 NFL draft. After spending three seasons in the NFL with the Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars and St. Louis Rams, Alexander joined the AFL's Nashville Kats, earning selection to the AFL's All-Rookie team in 2005.

In his brief AFL career, Alexander has carried the ball 247 times for 694 yards and 54 touchdowns in just 32 career games.
