Albany Defeats Brigade in Northeast Battle

Rochester, NY (AP)- In a Northeast Divisional battle, the Rochester Brigade (1-1) fell to the Albany Conquest (2-0) by a score of 36-42 in front of 6,623 fans at the Blue Cross Arena; the Conquest claims first place in the Northeast Division.

Leading the Brigade offense was Offensive Specialist Martino Theus, who scored two touchdowns on the night from 11 and 2 yards, and finished the game with 103 yards on eight receptions. OL/DL Mark Tisdale also contributed to the offense as he caught a six-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Brigade quarterback Matt D'Orazio completed 15 of 32 passes with two picks for 149 yards and registered 3 touchdowns on the night.

Defensively the Brigade was led by Vonkeith Spencer and his seven tackles (5 solo), one forced fumble, one interception and two passes defended.

Rochester (1-1) jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in the first quarter, spurred by a touchdown from D'Orazio and a 27-yard field goal from Todd Freelove.

The Brigade was leading 16-9 at halftime, but a quarterback switch for the Conquest was the boost they needed to turn the game around. As Ryan Vena replaced starter John Krueger, Vena completed 12 of 18 passes for 108 yards and three touchdowns in the second half, earning the game MVP honors.

Leading the offense for the Conquest was offensive specialist Corey Hill catching 9 passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns. He also registered 1 missed field goal return for 37 yards and 2 kickoff returns for 43 yards.

The IRONMAN award went to WR/LB Adriel Linyear, who registered six catches for 72 yards and one touchdown; defensively he registered five tackles (4 solo).

Defensive Specialist Henry Baker earned the ADT Defensive Player of the game, registering one solo tackle, one interception and one pass defended on the night.

Rochester falls to 1-1 on the season and Albany moves into first place for the Northeast Division lead with a 2-0 record. Next week, the Brigade will host the Mohegan Wolves (1-1), and the Conquest (2-0) will host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (0-2).
