Alabama Hammers News Release
The Alabama Hammers led it 35-24 at the half and cruised to the 70-45 victory over the Knoxville Nighthawks at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum in Professional Indoor Football League preseason action Friday night.
Alabama coach Marty Hammond said he liked what he saw as his Hammers get set to open the 2012 PIFL season next Saturday night in Lake Charles, La., against the Louisiana Swashbucklers.
"I liked - for the most part - every phase of our performance during this preseason game," Hammond said. "From the quarterbacks, to the special teams, to the receivers, - it was great. The defense also looked great and our offensive line looked pretty decent. I think we are off to a good start and I have real good feeling about this group."
Hammond pointed to the quarterback tandem of Chris Mayabb and Arvell Nelson, who combined for over 300 yards passing, and a rushing attack led by a pair of touchdowns from former UNA standout Charles McClain.
Thde Hammers open their regular season home slate March 24 against the Columbus Lions at the Von Braun Center's Propst Arena.
