
Akron Racers Title IX Honorees, Honorable Mentions to be Unveiled

AKRON, Ohio. - June 18, 2012 - The Akron Racers and Akron Beacon Journal are pleased to announce that on June 19, the unveiling of the 40 honorees that will be recognized before the June 23, Chicago Bandits vs Akron Racers ball game will take place in a special commemorative section in the Akron Beacon Journal on Tuesday, June 19.
A few months in the making, the Akron Racers and Akron Beacon Journal have been sorting through public nominations to narrow the honorees from all over northeast Ohio down to just 40, for a pre-game ceremony in honor of the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Title IX legislation.
Each honoree will be recognized on the field before the Racers take on the Bandits at Firestone Stadium on Saturday, June 23. In addition, there will be a commemorative Title IX medallion given to the first 500 fans to enter the stadium on June 23.
The ceremony to honor the 40 female athletes, coaches and administrators is slated to begin at 6:30 PM ET with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM ET. In addition to the 40 honorees to be announced, there are an additional 30 honorable mentions and two special awards - the Pioneer and Career.
Tickets for the 40th Anniversary Celebration and Akron Racers vs Chicago Bandits game start at just $7. Groups of 20 or more can receive tickets to the Title IX 40th Anniversary Celebration for just $6/each.
As a special bonus, anyone purchasing a ticket for the Saturday, June 23 game can return to Firestone Stadium on Sunday, June 24 with their ticket stub for half-off a ticket to Sunday's Mascot Mania game, starting at 2:05 PM ET.
