Akron Racers Set to Celebrate 15th Season of Play in 2016

AKRON, OH - As the oldest existing member of the NPF, the Akron Racers are preparing to celebrate their 15th season of play in 2016. Akron revealed today, a unique must-have for all Racer fans, a special logo that will be placed on Akron's game jerseys this season, as well as on replica jerseys and other apparel soon to be available online at akronracers.org.

The celebration of this proud historic franchise will be a year-long tribute to coaches, players and fans of the Racers throughout the years, culminating in a weekend of special events, July 15-17 when Akron hosts a three-game series against the Dallas Charge at Firestone Stadium.

The selection committee will begin deliberating to identify the players who have distinguished themselves over the past 15 seasons as the Racers "IMPACT PLAYERS". Each honoree will be invited to the three-day celebration and will be presented with a team jersey bearing the logo, their name and their number as worn during their career in a Racers uniform.

The Racers will begin revealing the 24 "IMPACT" Players on March 8th and will continue each Tuesday and Thursday for 12-weeks. The entire marketing initiative surrounding this historic season will be released as we move toward the first "IMPACT" Player announcement.

Kelley Montalvo, will suit-up for her seventh season for the Racers joining pitcher, Lisa Norris as the longest tenured players in Racers history. The All-Time Racers Roster includes 152 athletes who have donned the black and red over the past 15 seasons of play dating back to Akron's first team in 1999.

The Racers are eying their 350 regular season win, having won a league record 346 regular season games to date.

Akron opens the 2016 season on the road against the Pennsylvania Rebellion on May 31 with a two-game series, before returning home to kick off their season at Firestone Stadium with a three-game series against Pennsylvania, June 8-10.
