Akron Racers Foundation Annouces 2017 Amateur Event Schedule

Akron, OH -- The Akron Racers Foundation comprehensive development and utilization of historic Firestone Stadium has gone far beyond its signature team, the Akron Racers. In fact, Racers will be an exclamation point to a jam-pack schedule of activities for 2017. The Foundation schedule includes five high school tournaments and five summer travel ball tournaments.

The Ohio Invitational, April 7-9, kicks off the spring high school tournament schedule. The Spring Showcase and the JV Jamboree will be run concurrently, April 13-15. Both events will be capped at 16 to allow varsity and JV teams to travel together to compete in their respective events. The Rock n' Fire is slated for April 21-23 followed by the Grand Slam, April 27-29. These very successful high school tournaments will provide fans with a sneak peak at the talented teams emerging from around the state setting the stage for the 2017 OHSAA Girl's State Softball Tournament, June 1-4.

The high school Rivalry Series returns for its second season on Wednesday nights, April 12, 19 and 26. The complete list of competing teams will be finalized in the next few weeks but Firestone Stadium will definitely be the place to be on Wednesday nights in April.

As we step into May, Firestone Stadium once again will be the site of MAC Softball Championship, May 10-13. The Foundation's affiliation with the MAC's premier softball event dates back to 2002. This will be the MAC's 14th appearance at historic Firestone Stadium. The USCAA Small College National Tournament returns to Firestone Stadium, May 15-18.

The Firestone Frenzy, (10u, 12u) launches the Foundation's youth and travel ball events on May 19-21. The annual Slam Series I (10u, 12u 14u) will take place, June 14-16, followed by the Slam Series II (16u, 18u) tournament June 16-18. The schedule heats up in July with the Summer Sizzler (10u, 12u, 14u), July 7-9, with the Stadium Series (12u, 14u) rounding out the tournament schedule, July 14-16. These tournaments will be sanctioned by USSSA and will include a four-game guarantee. Details regarding registration and payment options are pending.
