Norm Milley buried a rebound with 17:53 gone in overtime last night to give Rochester a 4-3 win over Syracuse in Game 7, capping the 12th comeback in AHL history from a 3-1 series deficit. Syracuse erased three separate one-goal deficits during regulation, and got 42 saves from Karl Goehring, including 15 in overtime before Milley's winner. Ryan Miller stopped 33 shots on the night for the Amerks, who won their first playoff series in four years.
Simon Gamache's second straight three-point effort helped Milwaukee to a 5-1 win over Cincinnati last night, giving the Admirals a seven-game triumph in their West Division semifinal. Gamache scored twice and assisted on Greg Zanon's game-winning goal, finishing the series with 10 points. Milwaukee outscored the Mighty Ducks 21-9 in four games at the Bradley Center, and went 13-for-46 (28.3%) on the power play in the series.
Philadelphia punched its ticket to the next round with a 3-2 victory over Norfolk last night, wrapping up the series in six games. Game 6 was the fifth one-goal game of the series, which set AHL records for fewest goals by one team (Norfolk, 9) and combined (21) in a six-game set. Jeff Carter, the Flyers' first-round pick in the 2003 NHL draft, scored his first professional goal for the Phantoms, and Peter White added a goal and an assist, his first two points of this postseason.
Jason LaBarbera posted his 16th shutout and 40th win since opening night as Hartford took a 3-0 decision in Worcester yesterday for a 2-0 lead in their Atlantic Division final; Game 3 is this evening at the Centrum Centre (6:05 ET). LaBarbera lowered his postseason GAA to 0.94 as the Wolf Pack won their sixth straight game, and Chad Wiseman scored on a 5-on-3 advantage, the Pack's first power play goal in 10 contests against the IceCats this season.
Hamilton gets another chance at advancing with Game 6 set for Gund Arena in Cleveland this afternoon (4:00 ET). The Barons kept their season alive with a 4-1 road win on Friday, but have already lost twice on home ice in the series. Nolan Schaefer is 3-0 with a 1.41 GAA and .951 save percentage with Cleveland facing elimination this postseason, and defenseman Christian Ehrhoff is tied for the Barons' scoring lead with eight points in eight playoff matches.
