Published on July 23, 2008 under Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
The AFL Players Association (AFLPA) has partnered with The Brees Dream Foundation to build a greenhouse and grounds at the Samuel J. Green Charter School in New Orleans on Thursday, July 24th. AFLPA Executive Committee members and staff, Sam Green staff, coaches and community volunteers will be on hand to take part in the build. The Samuel J. Green Charter School, also known as the Edible Schoolyard, integrates organic gardening and fresh seasonal cooking into the school's curriculum, culture and food programs. It involves students in all aspects of farming the garden along with preparing, serving and eating the food as a means of awakening their senses and encouraging awareness and appreciation of the transformative values of nourishment, community and stewardship of the land. The Sam Green School will also be utilizing part of the funds donated by the AFLPA and The Brees Dream Foundation to hire additional teacher support in order to facilitate the new greenhouse program. This all day event, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., will feature current AFL and former NFL players and will conclude with a BBQ lunch provided by Whole Foods.
"It is an honor to work with The Brees Dream Foundation and the Sam Green School," said James Baron, President, AFL Players Association.
