
AFL Gives Back for Thanksgiving

NEW YORK â The Thanksgiving holiday is much more than just family, food, friends and football for AFL players and coaches. It's also a time to get involved in their communities. Around the league this Thanksgiving, players, coaches, owners and their families are giving back to their communities in a myriad of ways.
In New Jersey, the Gladiators are assisting with the Millennium Mentorship Program, Inc. at the Third Annual Elizabeth-Port Thanksgiving Dinner on Monday, November 25. Members of the Gladiators will be on hand to distribute Thanksgiving dinners, more than 100 toys, turkeys and grocery bags to children and their families. Doors will open at 4:00 p.m. at the Miller Logan Recreation Center (163 First Street-Elizabeth)
The Chicago Rush will work with the Salvation Army in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois to hand-deliver food boxes and baskets to Chicagoland families. On Monday, November 25, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. CT, Head Coach MIKE HOHENSEE, Assistant Head Coach WALT HOUSMAN, Equipment Manager JEFF HENDERSON and Community Relations Manager BETH BRANDON will help distribute the boxes along with several other Salvation Army volunteers.
The Los Angeles Avengers are working jointly with the STAPLES Center Foundation, the City of Carson and its Mayor DARYL SWEENEY to hand out turkeys to low-income senior citizens this Saturday, November 23.
In Grand Rapids, the Rampage will serve dinner to those less fortunate at God's Kitchen on Tuesday, November 26 from 1-4 p.m. ET. WR/LB MICHAEL BAKER, FB/LB MICHAEL BLAIR, OL/DL DEMETRIUS CROWDER, OS STEVE SMITH and OL/DL TYSHAUN WHITSON are a few of the players scheduled to be in attendance.
These are just some of the league-wide Thanksgiving-Day activities that AFL players, coaches and owners are participating in.
About Arena Football Often recognized as one of the nation's most affordable and fan-friendly sports leagues, the Arena Football League kicks off its 17th season and first on NBC beginning in February 2003. NBC will provide the AFL with unprecedented exposure by televising up to 70 games, including all playoff contests and ArenaBowl XVII on June 22.
