AFL announces week 16 honors

NEW YORK - Philadelphia Soul QB MATT D'ORAZIO, San Jose SaberCats DB CLEVAN THOMAS and Georgia Force WR/LB CARL MORRIS have been named Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player, and Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 16 of the 2008 season.

OFFENSIVE: D'Orazio (6-4, 230, Otterbein) completed 25-of-39 passes for 283 yards and accounted for eight touchdowns (6 - passing, 2 - rushing) as the Philadelphia Soul (12-3) defeated the Cleveland Gladiators (8-7), 62-61, on Saturday. D'Orazio led the Soul's offense on scoring drives on nine of the teams 12 possessions, including six consecutive, while compiling a passer rating of 124.1. Philadelphia travels to Nassau Coliseum to face the New York Dragons (8-7) on Sunday, June 22 at 3 p.m. ET.

ADT DEFENSIVE: Thomas (5-10, 199, Florida St.) registered six tackles, two passes defensed and tied a Week-16 high with two interceptions as the San Jose SaberCats (10-5) defeated the Tampa Bay Storm (7-8), 73-70, on Saturday. On fourth-and-one on San Jose's 15-yard line during Tampa Bay's second possession, Thomas deflected a pass by Storm QB BRETT DIETZ, causing an incomplete pass and posting the games first turnover. On first-and-goal from San Jose's six-yard line during Tampa Bay's fourth possession, Thomas intercepted a pass by Dietz in the end zone and returned it to the SaberCats five-yard line. The turnover kept San Jose within seven points and allowed them to tie the game on their next possession. During Tampa Bay's third possession of the fourth quarter, Thomas registered his second interception on a deep pass at the SaberCats six-yard line. The defensive stop resulted in a touchdown on San Jose's next possession, giving the SaberCats a 17-point lead they would not relinquish. San Jose welcomes the Georgia Force (10-5) to HP Pavilion on Saturday, June 21 at 10:30 p.m. ET (CSS - NDD at 12 p.m. ET, CSN Bay Area - Delay, 6/23 at 7 p.m. PT, SIRIUS Radio - Channel 130).

IRONMAN: Morris (6-3, 213, Harvard) recorded a game-high four receiving touchdowns with 103 yards on eight receptions as the Georgia Force (10-5) defeated the Chicago Rush (10-5), 50-47, on Saturday. Morris registered receiving touchdowns of six, 30, 21 and four as he matched Chicago in first-half touchdowns with three. Morris recorded one-and-a half tackles on defense as the Force held the Rush to its second-lowest output of the first-half (20) and the game (47) this season. The Force travel to HP Pavilion to take on the San Jose SaberCats (10-5) on Saturday, June 21 at 10:30 p.m. ET (CSS - NDD at 12 p.m. ET, CSN Bay Area - Delay, 6/23 at 7 p.m. PT, SIRIUS Radio - Channel 130).

ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Colorado DB Rashad Floyd and DB Jason Harmon, Dallas DB Donvetis Franklin, Georgia DL Will Thompson, Los Angeles DL Justin Hickman and LB Brandon Perkins, Orlando DB Jason Perry and Tampa Bay DB Jeroid Johnson.

Ironman of the Week candidates included: Orlando FB/LB Odie Armstrong, New York FB/LB Idris Price and Tampa Bay WR/LB Lawrence Samuels
