AFL and Spalding Honor Mother's Day with Commemorative Game Ball
May 6, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK - The Arena Football League and Spalding will honor all mothers this weekend
with a ceremonial pink game ball that will be used during all AFL games.
Week 11 begins on Friday, May 9, as the Cleveland Gladiators (5-4) host the Orlando Predators (7-3) at 7 p.m. ET and culminates with Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Monday, May 12, as the Georgia Force (4-5) welcome the Philadelphia Soul (9-1) to The Arena at Gwinnett Center at 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2 HD, ESPN360.com).
Spalding's innovative design for AFL game balls will be altered slightly. The light brown Horween leather ball usually features a blue âS' stripe. This weekend, AFL teams will use a ball that features a pink âS' stripe, pink laces and pink crosshairs. The commemorative balls will be used for first- and second-half kickoffs and during special coin toss presentations.
Each participating team will present pink balls to unsuspecting mothers in attendance while also auctioning off autographed balls on www.arenafootball.com. Some balls will be used to generate donations for local charities. Non-autographed game balls and micro footballs will also be on sale online.
