FRIDAY'S GAMES
GREENSBORO 60, Charleston 53 (Attendance: 2,274): QB CALEB SLOVER connected on 21-of-35 passes for 232 yards with six touchdowns and he rushed for another score, as the Prowlers (4-5) held off the Swamp Foxes (3-5). Game MVP BOBBY SIPPIO caught three balls, two for touchdowns, and returned four kickoffs for 118 yards with one 56-yard touchdown runback. Swamp Foxes QB JOHN TURMAN threw for a season and career high 268 yards, but also had three interceptions.
MEMPHIS 62, Bossier City 35 (Attendance: 3,096): The Xplorers (3-5) outscored the Battle Wings (3-6) 32-6 in the second half to erase a 29-14 first half deficit and win its second in a row. QB WILL BURCH completed 20-of-33 for 202 yards and four touchdowns to three different receivers. Kicker STEVEN GREEN connected on a rare four-point field goal when he drop-kicked one from 23 yards away in the third quarter. Bossier City's LEAFORD HACKITT led all receivers with seven catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns.
SATURDAY'S GAMES
Mohegan 51, NORFOLK 36 (Attendance: 4,229): Game MVP GREG SMITH tossed six touchdowns on 23-of-32 passing for 286 yards as the Wolves (5-3) toppled the Nighthawks (5-3). Mohegan's MEL LONG led all receivers with eight receptions for 123 yards and four touchdowns. TRAVIS BURNS tallied eight catches for 112 yards and one touchdown for the Nighthawks, who had won three straight coming in to the game.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 50, RICHMOND 49 (Attendance: 3,635): TERRELL JOHNSON'S interception of QB ROY JOHNSON'S two-point conversion attempt at the end of regulation allowed the Pioneers (3-6) to hold on against the Speed (4-4). QB CHRIS BODEN passes for four touchdowns and rushed for two more, including the go-ahead score with under a minute to play. Pioneers' receiver COSMO DEMATTEO hauled in 11 passes for 115 yard and two scores, while Richmond's DAMON THOMPSON grabbed 10 receptions for a game high 136 yards and three touchdowns.
Tennessee Valley 61, COLUMBUS 55 (Attendance: 4,105): WR/DB JERRIAN JAMES' 56-yard touchdown return for a touchdown midway through the third quarter put the Vipers (8-0) ahead of the Wardogs (2-6) for good. James had four catches for 58 yards and three touchdowns in addition to the solid special teams performance. QB MATT SAUK went 20-of-33 passing for 229 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions. The Vipers are the second team in the history of af2 to start the season 8-0. Columbus appears to be busting out of its offensive slump, as its 55 points is same amount scored over the last three games combined.
Cape Fear 45, FLORIDA 31 (Attendance: 4,719): Game MVP WILMONT PERRY'S four rushing tallies helped the Wildcats (6-2) run past the Firecats (3-5). Perry totaled 53 rushing yards on the night as Cape Fear avenged last season's Conference Championship loss to Florida. The Wildcats' MATT BURSTEIN led all receivers with 10 receptions, while teammate CALVIN CEASAR posted a game-high 80 receiving yards. Wildcats' QB BRYAN SYNDER completed 22 of the 27 passes he attempted and did not throw an interception.
Quad City 48, CINCINNATI 21 (Attendance: 3,458): WR/DB JEFF HEWITT, Ironman and ADT Player of the Game, intercepted three passes including one that he returned for a touchdown as the Steamwheelers (7-2) stopped the Swarm (3-6). Game MVP IRA GOOCH caught six passes for 101 yards and five touchdowns, while QB TONY ZIMMERMAN went 17-of-31 passing for 234 yards and six touchdowns. Quad City has won seven straight games.
ALBANY 64, Rochester 40 (Attendance: 5,072): QB RYAN VENA, Game MVP, competed 17-of-21 passes for 251 yards and six scores and rushed for 26 yards to lead the Conquest (7-1) over the Brigade (1-8). Vena, who has been named Game MVP in six of the seven Conquest wins this season, threw three touchdowns to WR/DB PHIL TAYLOR (6 receptions for 82 yards) and two to OS COREY HILL (7 receptions for 82 yards). DS ELIJAH BEAMON ran back an interception 50 yards for a score and picked up 6.5 tackles on his way to being names ADT Defensive Player of the Game for the second time this season.
BIRMINGHAM 63, Macon 37 (Attendance: 5,343): QB CHRIS WINDSOR completed 13-of-22 passes for 214 yards and six touchdowns as the Steeldogs (4-4) handled the Knights (5-3). Game MVP ANTHONY JORDAN caught five Windsor passes for 104 yards and four touchdowns. Jordan also earned Ironman honors, as he registered two interceptions and made a game-high eight stops. ADT Defensive Player of the Game TJ PERRY also had eight tackles and an interception for the Steeldogs.
TULSA 59, Arkansas 46 (Attendance: 5,886): WR/DB MITCH ALLNER, Ironman of the Game, caught a game-high seven passes for 102 yards and four touchdowns, including three consecutive touchdown receptions in a 2:28 span during the second quarter to lead the Talons (8-1) past the Twisters (4-4). Arkansas' KEVIN WILLIAMS paced the Twisters with four receptions for 83 yards and three touchdowns. QB CRAIG STRICKLAND completed 19-of-33 passes for 242 yards and six touchdowns for the Talons, who won its 23rd straight regular season home game.
WICHITA 57, Green Bay 36 (Attendance: 5,212): Game MVP DAREN WILLIAMS broke a Stealth (6-3) rushing record with three touchdowns, helping Wichita defeat the Blizzard (0-8). The Stealth built a 20-0 first quarter lead behind two rushing tallies and a 24-yard interception return for a score by ADT Defensive Player of the game SHOMARI BUCHANAN, who had two of the Stealth's three interceptions on the night. Green Bay receiver NATE LEHMAN caught eight balls for 126 yards and two scores to lead all receivers.
BAKERSFIELD 43, San Diego 24 (Attendance: 4,617): Receiver ERIC MAHANKE tallied 12 receptions for 178 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Blitz (3-6) past the Riptide (4-5). QB CHAD ELLIOTT completed 25-of-41 for 298 yards and five touchdowns for the Blitz. The Bakersfield defense yielded only 10 points through the first three quarters and sacked Riptide QB KANE CLAUNCH five times, including two sacks from RICKY LEUNG'WAI.
HAWAII 67, Louisville 48 (Attendance: 3,768): WR/DB NIAN TAYLOR, Ironman of the Game, hauled in nine receptions for 179 yards and five touchdowns as the Islanders (7-2) topped the Fire (3-6) and extended its win streak to four games. QB MIKE TILLIS filled in for an injured DARNELL ANCENEAUX and was named Game MVP, passing for 250 yards and five touchdowns. The Islanders are 5-0 at home this season.
