June 24, 2006 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
SUNDAY, JUNE 25, 2006 - Rabobank Arena (9,000) 6:00 P.M. ET Arkansas heads to Rabobank Arena on Sunday for a non-division battle with with Bakersfield. Arkansas is coming off a 41-38 victory over Rio Grande in Week 12. QB WALTER CHURCH spread the wealth last week as four different receivers hauled in touchdown grabs. WR/DB JON SCHOONOVER caught the game-winning reception from Church with :36 left. As usual, the Twisters were led by their defense as a number of players brought enormous contribution. FB/LB STEVE WATSON scored a touchdown on the ground, but was a bigger factor with 2.5 sacks. He leads the af2 with 15.5 sacks. His season total is also a new Twisters' club record. ADT Defensive Player of the Week DS DELENELL REID accounted for 12 solo tackles, two interceptions and three pass break ups. WR/DB PIERRE THOMAS had 7.5 tackles, including 1.5 TFL, while OL/DL SHAKOR BRYANT matched Watson's 2.5 sacks. The Twisters bring in a defense that is 3rd in the league in yards allowed and on pace to break the af2 record for sacks in a season. The Bakersfield Blitz were not as lucky last week as they fell to Oklahoma City in the final minute. QB BOBBY PESAVENTO threw for 327 yards and seven touchdowns in the shootout. Pesavento hooked up with favorite target, OS RENNA REYNOLDS, for four touchdowns as Reynolds compiled 13 catches for 150 yards. Reynolds is tied for third in the league in touchdown receptions with 29. WR/DB ERIC MAHANKE scored on two of his three receptions. OL/DL JERRY TURNER came up big for the defense once again, as he recorded 2.5 sacks. WR/DB NATHAN MUNSON also contributed with a touchdown reception and three pass break ups. Bakersfield is currently #1 in total defense and #2 in scoring defense. Expect a low scoring affair between these two teams as they both pride themselves on defense.
