TULSA TALONS (12-3) AT BOSSIER CITY BATTLE WINGS (3-12)
FRIDAY, JULY 25, 2003-CENTURYTEL CENTER (12,500) 8:30 P.M ET
Bossier City wraps up its 2003 season as it hosts the Tulsa Talons. This is the second meeting between these teams as they met back in Week 8 of the season in which Tulsa handled the Battle Wings by a score of 49-28. Tulsa quarterback CRAIG STRICKLAND played an excellent game as he went 24-for-31 for 282 yards passing and five touchdowns. He threw no interceptions, and his efforts earned him the Game MVP Award. Strickland's play has helped the Talons average 50.5 points per game, making them fifth in the league. However, the Battle Wings can be quite strong on defense, especially with the play of defensive specialist CHRIS SAMSON who leads the team in tackles with 81.0 and ranks second in the af2 with this number. Unfortunately, Bossier City has been eliminated from playoff contention but the Tulsa Talons have clinched the National Conference Central Division title as well as a first round bye in the playoffs with their 12-3 record. It currently rests in the second spot in the National Conference playoff picture, and it could possibly tie with Quad City for the top spot in the playoffs if Peoria defeats the Steamwheelers. Tulsa wishes to win in order to gain positive momentum going into the playoffs, but Bossier City wants to end the 2003 season on a positive note as well.
GREEN BAY BLIZZARD (2-13) AT SAN DIEGO RIPTIDE (5-10)
FRIDAY, JULY 25, 2003-SAN DIEGO SPORTS ARENA (12,000) 10:30 P.M ET
San Diego wraps up its 2003 season as it travels to Green Bay to take on the Blizzard for the second time this season. The teams met back on June 7th in which the Blizzard handled the Riptide 53-43, earning their first win in team history. ROBERT GARTH put on an stellar performance in that game, and his efforts earned him Game MVP, Ironman, and ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors. Garth returned a PAT for a touchdown in the first quarter, caught seven passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns, and recorded two tackles. San Diego defensive specialist KENNY HASLIP also put on a great performance in this game. He recorded 4.0 tackles, pulled in an interception, and deflected two of quarterback RAMON ROBINSON's passes. Haslip leads the team and the league in tackles with 86.5. Unfortunately, Green Bay and San Diego will not see any postseason play this season.
