HOUSTON, Texas - STARskaters.org and the Houston Aeros have partnered up for a family FUNraiser on Saturday, August 2 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The FUNraiser will be held at the Willowbrook Aerodrome, and will be a fun event for the family in support of a great cause. A raffle with great prizes will also be held immediately following the event.

Former Aeros' player Steve Simoni and his band the Screaming Buffalo will hold a special concert at the Maple Leaf Pub also to benefit the upcoming STAR Skaters event. The concert is to be held on Saturday, July 26 at 8 p.m. The Maple Leaf Pub can be found at 514 Elgin Street. The Willowbrook Aerodrome is located at 8220 Willow Place Drive North, near 249 and FM 1960.

STAR Skaters mission is to provide an on-ice skating experience for therapy and recreation for children and young adults with any type of physical or developmental disability. The program is open to anyone five years of age or older who would normally be unable to enjoy an on-ice skating experience due to their disability.

The event will include free skating lessons, pictures with Aeros mascot Chilly and on-ice puck relay games, just like the games played during Aeros intermissions. Participants can win prizes with the SLAPSHOT game. Non-skaters can enjoy the Aeros H.I.T.S program (Hockey In The Streets) in the Aerodrome parking lot. A sled hockey game will also run from 5:40-7 p.m. as a demonstration of how the money raised can be used. The two hours of skating and fun with family and friends at the Aerodrome is only $10 per person. To register, or for more information, send an email to fun@starskaters.org.
