St. Joseph, MI - The Lake Michigan Admirals will host the Northwest Indiana Stars in the PBL preseason tournament Sunday at Benton Harbor High School.
Like the Admirals, the Stars are in their first season of the PBL, moving from the ABA.
Admiral Coach Che' Eddie says the Stars have very quick guards, a sentiment reiterated by veteran forward, Odgra Bobo. "They play extremely hard and put lots of pressure on defense."
Northwest Indiana Coach Derrick Smith says the team is even faster this year. "This is a whole different group," stated Coach Smith. Players to watch include Howard Little, Luther Boyd, and Daniel Artest, younger brother of NBA veteran Ron Artest.
Asked Coach Smith about containing Admirals center 7'3" Shagari Alleyne and he replied, "We are confident we have a game plan for a player of that stature. It will be a faster game that will take him away from the basket."
Five Admirals scored in double figures in last weeks 116-109 overtime win over Grand Rapids. Benton Harbor native Rodney Alexander led the team with 22pts. Alexander played in China last year.
Winner of the 3:00pm contest will meet the winner between the Indiana Diesels and the Dayton Airstrikers December 10th at Lake Michigan Catholic.
