Lake Michigan Admirals News Release
Scranton, PA. Call it sweet revenge. After falling to Scranton on the final score of the game Thursday, Lake Michigan exploded for their highest offensive point total of the year. The Admirals rolled over the Steamers 129-117 at Lackawanna College Friday, finishing the season series at 3-4.
Lake Michigan opened the game with a 10-2 run and one sensed something magical was about to happen for the short-handed Admirals. With Colby Batiste traded to Scranton before the game and Chris Dixon's arrival rescheduled for Dayton, someone had to step up. Instead, it was the trio of Pete Trammell, Odgra Bobo and Scotty Samarco scoring 25 points for a 37-25 first quarter lead.
Scranton, taking advantage of Admiral turnovers and three-point miscues, used a 9-1 run with under 1:30 left in the second quarter to pull within one, 61-60, at halftime.
The two teams exchanged baskets most of the third quarter with the Admirals hanging on for a 98-96 lead.
The Steamers cut the lead to one with just under 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter before Jason Underwood caught fire for the Admirals, scoring 10 of his game high 29 points and nine rebounds. Scranton would get no closer as six of the nine Admirals would reach double figures.
Samarco finished with 22 points for Lake Michigan. Bobo had 18 and Demitrius Howard added 16. Romain Martin rounded out the scoring with 10 points. Tyc Snow, the Admirals' 5-foot 7 point guard scored 8 with 15 assist, despite being double and sometimes tripled teamed by the Steamers.
Chris Commons led Scranton with 33 points, a follow-up to his 32 on Thursday.
The Admirals shot 54.95% from the field and 65.52% from the foul line. Scranton finished with 47.37% from the field and 69.7% from the line and out-rebounded the Admirals 50-45, grabbing seven more offensive rebounds. The Admirals were 8 for 19 from three-points, Scranton 3 for 16.
The Admirals, 4-12, wrap up the season with four games against Dayton, beginning with an away game Friday, March 23. The Air Strikers visit Benton Harbor's Farnum Gymnasium Sunday, March 25 at 3 PM.
Scranton, 8-9, head to Rochester with Batiste rejoining his Charleston Gunner former teammate, Lionel Armstead. The Steamers have two games against the RazorSharks and one with Dayton. The Air Strikers have six games left, four with the Admirals and one each with Rochester and Scranton in the battle for second place and final playoff spot. The Air Strikers are 1-1 against Lake Michigan.
