Aces Acquire Sinkewich from Wheeling

Anchorage, AK - The Alaska Aces have acquired defenseman, Russ Sinkewich from the Wheeling Nailers, Head Coach Brent Thompson announced on Sunday. The deal completed an earlier trade in which the Nailers received the rights to Nick Tuzzolino. Sinkewich will join the Aces immediately for the final week of training camp. The Aces open the 2010-2011 regular season this Friday and Saturday night when they host the Utah Grizzlies. On Friday, fans in attendance will receive free GCI magnetic schedules, and on Saturday Fred Meyer Autograph Books will be given out to fans at the game. Sinkewich, 25, is entering his second full season as a pro, after playing in 70 games for the Johnstown Chiefs last year. The 6'4", 215 lbs. Westlake, OH native had 15 points (2g, 13a) and 97 penalty minutes last season. The prior season, Sinkewich made his pro debut as an amateur appearing in 16 games for the Chiefs after finishing his collegiate career. He also received two separate five-game call-ups to the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters and Milwaukee Admirals, respectively. Before turning pro, Sinkewich played his college hockey at perennial power, Bowling Green State University.
