Aberdeen Takes Series with 3-1 Win

ABERDEEN, MD-The Aberdeen IronBirds (23-31) scored two runs in the fourth inning to earn a 3-1win over the Connecticut Tigers (24-29) at Ripken Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The IronBirds scored two runs in the fourth inning against Connecticut LHP Hua-Wei Lo (2-2). CF Anthony Vega (1-4) singled and moved to second base when RF Lucas Herbst (0-4) reached on an error.

2B Creede Simpson (1-4) singled to score Vega and SS Joel Hutter (1-4) doubled home Herbst for a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers scored a single run in the seventh inning. CF Jake Stewart (2-4) singled and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by LF Danry Vasquez (2-3). CF Patrick Smith (1-4) lined a double to center field to score Stewart for a 2-1 lead.

Aberdeen 1B Cameron Edman (1-3) hit a solo home run over the center field wall in the eighth inning to increase the lead to 3-1.

The Tigers take the next two days off for the NYPL all-star break and return to play Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. against the Hudson Valley Renegades, the NYPL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, at Dodd Stadium.
