ANNAPOLIS, MD - Veteran defensive midfielder Matt Abbott has been named the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career for his performance against the Long Island Lizards at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

"Matt is one of our most valuable players and most of the plays he makes don't show up in a stat sheet," general manager Brian Reese stated. "We are happy that he is being recognized for his contributions."

Abbott anchored a suffocating defense to lead the Bayhawks to a 13-6 victory over the Lizards on Saturday night. A Syracuse University graduate, Abbott matched his single game high of 6 ground balls during the contest. This season Abbott has tallied 40 ground balls, good for 2nd on the squad, and has scored 7 goals and netted 4 assists for 11 points. The Bayhawks return home on Saturday, August 11th to battle the Denver Outlaws for the top seed in the playoffs. Join us for Military Appreciation Night and a post-game fireworks show. Tickets can be purchased online at www.thebayhawks.com or over the phone by calling the box office 866-99-HAWKS (42957). Reserve your seat today and see the Bayhawks battle at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium this summer.
