ABA's ask the CEO

October 11, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Question from Leonard in NYC: "Why haven't you mentioned the NBA/ABA exhibition game in the last couple of days? I guess that shows what the NBA thinks of the ABA."

Answer: Thanks for the question and the comment Leonard. I haven't mentioned the NBA/ABA exhibition game in the last couple of days because there was nothing new to say and most of the questions had been answered already. Evidently, the NBA did not want to do the exhibition game and it is certainly within their rights to make that decision. We think it is a good idea. They don't. The losers are the Katrina/Rita victims, not the NBA or the ABA. As far as this showing what the NBA thinks of the ABA, I don't believe that at all. As a matter of fact, the Miami Heat just beat the San Antonio Spurs in an exhibition game to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina and the league gave a check for $1.1 million dollars to the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army and Feed the Poor. Who knows - maybe our challenge helped stimulate this generous effort by the NBA, maybe not. Either way, the victims of Hurricane Katrina will benefit - and that's good. If you have a question, please email joenewman@abalive.com. -

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
