ABA to return to Hawaii in 2009
November 13, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it would return to Honolulu, Hawaii for the 2009 season. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "Hawaii was one of the most popular cities ever in the ABA, the backing was tremendous, but we could not get over the hurdle of travel expenses. Thanks to LaShun McDaniel, part of the new ownership group, that problem has been solved and we will return next season. I know that our teams are excited about their trips this season to Alaska and the Bahamas - and they'll be equally excited about a winter stay in Hawaii. We are very pleased and proud."
The team will be owned by A.M. and Associates, a group of investors, headed by well-known professional player and coach, LaShun McDaniel. McDaniel is also on the Executive Committee of the World Basketball Cup (www.worldbasketballcup), responsible for European development.
"We are extremely excited to be a part of the ABA. As part of the ever-growing ABA family, we are in the process of having a club to represent our community not just in Honolulu, but the entire state of Hawaii," stated McDaniel. "In the coming days, our web-site will be available to our family, friends and supporters. Our first priority will be to conduct a global search for a candidate to serve as our President of Basketball Operations. This candidate will oversee the operation of the team. For now, all emails should be directed to www.saintanthony21@hotmail.com."
McDaniel is a former NBA Player (1990-1993) with Portland and Charlotte. He is currently the Head Basketball Coach European School Basketball Club Seniors Team in Brussels Belgium, a former Coach of the ABA Beijing Aoshen Olympian, CBA All Star who received his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Saint Augustine College in Raleigh, NC. He is fluent in four languages, English, Italian, French and Spanish.
