ABA To Return To Baltimore, MD This Season

May 29, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it would return to the city of Baltimore, Maryland in November under the leadership of businesswoman Kia Feaster. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "We've always felt that Baltimore could be, should be a premier city for the ABA with the right ownership. Kia attended the ABA League Meeting in April and we have no doubt about her ability and commitment. She is "one special lady" who really has her act together."

"I had the pleasure of meeting the founders of the league and many team owners at the ABA meeting. I received a copy of The Keys to Success - and that day my desire to be a part of the ABA grew," said Ms.Feaster. "Aware of the business of basketball and the perseverance needed to be a team owner, I began my Baltimore Bay Lions mission."

Born in Baltimore, Ms. Feaster saw a great need for a professional basketball team to complement the city's growth. She is part of the city's growth through her company Pisces, business association groups and community boards as well as volunteer work that includes CASA (advocate for children), DVC (domestic violence center) and AWS (no kill pet shelter). Coming from a family of hard workers, determination and leadership are second nature. Her primary goal is to bring "the entire city" together in a fun and affordable environment.

Also a native of Baltimore, Kirk Mitchell will be Director of Operations and Head Coach. Playing professionally in Holland, Switzerland and England has encouraged him to author "International Basketball," a player's guide and CD-Rom which received great reviews from Sam Cassell and Ed Tapscott. Towson University has a new Sports Management program and they are working with Kirk and the Bay Lions. "Thanks to Coach Mitchell, the Bay Lions are able to recruit worldwide by providing room and board for up to three players," added Ms. Feaster.

Also on the Bay Lions administrative team are Lisa Fenwick-Henderson, Director of Finance; Justden Gerhard, Director or Marketing; Sandra Vega, Merchandise Coordinator; and Jason Crabtree, Web Development.

The Baltimore Bay Lions inaugural season begins in November at the 1st Mariner Arena. Additional information about the team, including tryouts, special events, Fantasy Basketball Game as well as additional personnel requirements will follow shortly. "Bottom line," according to Kia, "is that Baltimore is READY for the long haul; the Bay Lions have a lot to prove to win back the city's trust. The Bay Lions must work hard NOW by getting a positive word flowing throughout Maryland. Bay Lions will be a business owners dream for networking. Baltimore will LOVE their Baltimore Bay Lions. We'll have our website up within days." For more information, email mslady120@yahoo.com or visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
