ABA to return to Arkansas next season

Published on March 20, 2007 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the league will return to Arkansas next season when the FAYETTEVILLE FANTASTICS take the floor. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "There was a lot of disappointment when the league had to suspend the Arkansas Aeros. They had an excellent team and the players, coaches and fans deserved better. So we are extremely pleased that we will be returning in November with an outstanding organization."

The ownership and management group includes University of Arkansas' Furonda Brasfield from the TV show, "America's Next Top Model," who has signed with Model Me TV, Ultra Glow and Genesis 3inc. (more about Furonda on Friday). Furonda will be responsible for the media and marketing of the team. Also included will be the Arkansas Razorbacks all-time assist and steals leader, ABA All-Star Kareem Reid.

The co-general managers will be ABA veteran Dominick Young and former Aeros/RiverCatz coach Ed Corporal. Young has played in the ABA and many international teams usually averaging double-doubles in scoring and assists and will probably suit up again for the team. "We are very pleased to be a part of the ABA again," stated Young, one of the owners. We have a tremendous amount of respect for the league. I have been part of the league for several seasons as a player and co-owner and know what it takes to make an organization successful. We've been able to put together a very strong group of people; we have a terrific place to play at the HPER Center on the Arkansas Campus, and we have the time to do it right. The fans of Arkansas will again be proud of their team - that's a promise and a commitment from all of us."

Tabitha Lee, President of the Student NAACP at the University of Arkansas is the dance team coach while the fitness and conditioning trainer is Bradley Jones, also of the University of Arkansas.
