ABA Returns to San Antonio
July 10, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA Co-Founder, today confirmed the big Texas rumor, the ABA is returning to San Antonio in 2005. According to Newman, "I am amazed at how word spreads so fast. You can't believe the calls we've received and the excitement this has generated. San Antonio, the home of the Iceman, George Gervin, was one of the original ABA's most successful cities. The return to San Antonio is a natural. And we have a fabulous ownership group there - KRS Sports Unlimited, headed by real estate developer Kevin Ray Sanderson."
Sanderson added, "This is really a dream come true. I still remember sitting in the sandbox saying, "One day I'll have me a basketball championship ring. I believe San Antonio has the world's greatest basketball fans and it will be a delight to give them another team to cheer for and fall in love with. I was stationed at Kelly Air Force base for three years of my military career and found it was not just a city, but a real community, a place where people still had pride, morals and values, a perfect setting for our organization. We will focus heavily on the competition of the sport as well as provide entertainment with a touch of class. I come equipped with a passion to win and a "Die Hard" spirit. We look forward to impacting the league positively."
