ABA adds Youngstown, Ohio to 2009 expansion list

November 18, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it has added Youngstown, Ohio to its growing list of teams that will begin play in December, 2009. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "Youngstown is a great city and it certainly fits well into our North Central division. I can imagine that the Cleveland Rockers and Youngstown will have quite a rivalry. And we have an excellent, experienced owner in David Stambul. We're very pleased."

The YOUNGSTOWN SWISH will be owned and operated by the Commissioner of LCAA Sports, an organization that promotes both youth and adult sports leagues as well as sports fundraisers in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

Stambul is a former member of the Youngstown State University's men's basketball team and graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management in 1999. From 2005-2007, Stambul assistant coached the men's basketball team at Butler County Community College in Butler, Pennsylvania. Since 2001, Stambul has operated LCAA Sports and has organized basketball fundraisers with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Quicken Loans Arena.

"We are very excited to be a part of the ABA," stated Stambul. "I feel there is a passion for basketball in the Youngstown area and with the help of the ABA and the Swish, I believe that passion can be developed to serve, not only the players, but also the community of Youngstown. Currently, we are working on building our website (www.youngstownswish.com) and plan to have it available to the public in the coming days. At this time, any inquiries about the team can be emailed to youngstownswish@yahoo.com. Or call 330 774 5845. Or visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
