ABA adds Columbus, Ohio to 2009 expansion class
October 30, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that Columbus, Ohio has been added to the growing list of expansion teams set to begin in the 2009-2010 season. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "Columbus Ohio is a market long overdue for an ABA team. Scarborough Sports Marketing ranked it as the #1 sports town in America and 66% of the people there consider themselves sports fanatics. We have just been waiting for the right owner and we found him in David Moore, a bright and energetic 30 year old Ohio native with an excellent background in business, basketball and not-for-profit/community work."
David is the CEO of the Midwest Opportunity Group (www.midwestoppgroup.org), a not-for-profit organization that sponsors and contributes to its flagship program, the MOG Scholarship Challenge, where top students are rewarded with scholarships to help offset the costs of books and supplies while they are in school. The organization also fosters mentorship in the community to help promote education and safe neighborhoods.
"I cannot tell you how proud we are to be a part of the ABA," stated Moore. "I was an energetic guard who played hard and fast in high school - and that is the same way the COLUMBUS CRUSH will play. I think the ABA is a great model, especially in these economic times. The tickets are affordable and young players have a chance to get exposure they would be hard pressed to get anywhere else. Our website will be up shortly - and it will be interactive where fans can have plenty of input. We want to involve the community with the Columbus Crush. Our logo will be ready shortly also. We are ready to go." For more information, email dmoore@midwestoppgroup.org or visit www.midwestoppgroup.org or call 614 865 0640. Or visit www.abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
