ABA adds Canadian team for upcoming season

July 21, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Niagara Daredevils News Release

St. Catharines (PRWEB). Joe Newman, ABA CEO, today announced that it would be adding a team that will play in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada starting in November. The team will be known as the Niagara Daredevils.

According to Newman, "We added the team for several reasons. The ownership group will be led by Al Howell, an extremely experienced Canadian sports executive who has served as a Canadian consultant to the league since its inception. He knows the ABA, he knows Canada and he knows basketball. He can jumpstart this operation quickly and effectively. We have great confidence in Al and his people. And next, we felt that this would greatly enhance the division with rivalries in Detroit, Rochester, Buffalo and Montreal."

The team will play at the Garden City Arena in St. Catharines and will have its home games on Sunday afternoons from November through early March and the playoffs. Howell added, "We are very pleased and excited to be a part of the ABA. We've watched the growth of the league and the maturity of the league very carefully and are very impressed with the great progress that has been made. We have a lot of work to do and not much time to do it. But we are up to the task."

The team is now accepting resumes for the position of Head Coach and also welcomes any potential players resumes. For more information, contact Al Howell at 905 356 0968 or by fax 866 599 3029 or email al5802@yahoo.com or visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
