DAZZLE GUARD HONORED IN ST. LOUIS Roanoke Dazzle point guard Marque Perry will be in St. Louis Wednesday to accept the Carl O. Bauer Award as the top local figure in St. Louis amateur sports last year. Perry joins such notables as Kellen Winslow, Jackie Joyner and Larry Hughes as winners of the award. The event will be broadcast live through much of the nation on KMOX radio.

TOP PERFORMANCES LAST WEEK

· Desmond Penigar of Asheville scored 31 points at Charleston on Dec. 5.

· Omar Cook of Fayetteville dished out 13 assists against Columbus Dec. 5.

· Huntsville's Ken Johnson blocked seven (7) shots at Fayetteville Dec. 6

D-LEAGUE NICKNAMES

The NBDL has its share of players with colorful nicknames, especially in Huntsville, where "Pig", "Poke" and "Low Down Dirty" suit up for every game. There's "X" and "C-Money" in Charleston, but the rest of the league is sure to find out that "The Best Kept Secret" plays in Asheville. Below are a few of the colorful D-League nicknames. Explanations for most are better left unsaid.

YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW THAT...

· Fayetteville center Jason Collier and his wife Katie are expecting their first child in January.

· Roanoke forward Mikki Moore's real first name is Clinton.

· Huntsville guard Mateen Cleaves would like to pursue a career in broadcasting and motivational speaking once basketball is over.

· Roanoke's Reggie Elliott, Huntsville's Cheyne Gadson and Fayetteville's Junie Sanders were all open tryout players who made their team's roster.

YOUNG MAN'S GAME

The league-leading Huntsville Flight is also the youngest team in the NBDL with an average age of 23.9 years. Of the 60 players on NBDL rosters, 46 are 25-years-old or younger. There are only three players in the NBDL age 30 or over. The average age of current NBDL players is 24.6.

IN VET CAMPS

The number of NBDL players in NBA vet camps has increased steadily over the first three years of the league. This year there were 27 present NBDL players in NBA training camps.

INTERNATIONAL FLAIR

There are currently five international players on NBDL rosters, up from two last season. International players this year include Carl English (Canada), Jason Miskiri (Guyana) and Alpha Bangura (Sierra Leon) of Charleston, as well Roanoke's Chris Christofferson (Denmark) and Huntsville's Rick Apodaca (Puerto Rico).

"THIS WEEK IN THE NBDL"

"This Week in the NBDL", a weekly program featuring the top stories and players from the National Basketball Development League, airs every Monday at 6 p.m. ET on NBA TV. This week's guests include Asheville guard Lavor Postell and Fayetteville head coach Jeff Capel. The Total Access segment will continue to give viewers and inside look at life in the D-League.

WHO'S HOT

The Fayetteville Patriots (4-2) and the Charleston Lowgators (3-2) have each won three consecutive games.

WHO'S NOT

The Columbus Riverdragons are off to an 0-6 start. The Roanoke Dazzle dropped two home games over the weekend after getting off to a 3-0 start.

STILL THE LEADER

After splitting a two-game road trip to Roanoke and Fayetteville, the Huntsville Flight remains in the top spot of the NBDL standings at 4-1. The Flight is one-half game ahead of Fayetteville.
