A Look Back on the B-Sens 2014-15 Season

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators finished the 2014-15 season with a 34-34-7-1 record good for third place in the East Division, but not good enough to place them into the race for the 2015 Calder Cup.

Despite missing the playoffs, the B-Sens finished tied for third in the American Hockey League with 242 goals for, and second in the power play ranking with 20.6%. The team also finished third in penalty minutes with 1,620 overall (an average of 21.3 per game).

STANDOUT PLAYERS

CHRIS WIDEMAN- Wideman entered into his third season with the Binghamton Senators and reached a career best with 19 goals and 42 assists good for 61 points in 75 games played. He tied for the B-Sens longest point-scoring streak running nine games from Oct. 17 to Nov. 1 with a team-leading goal-scoring streak running four games from Oct. 26 to Nov. 1. Wideman finished the season leading all AHL defensemen in points and was named the recipient of the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL's outstanding defensemen for the 2014-15 season. Wideman was also part of the AHL All-Star Game played in January and named to the First AHL All-Star team at the end of the year.

CARTER CAMPER, SHANE PRINCE & COLE SCHNEIDER- The line of Camper, Prince and Schneider helped keep the B-Sens as an offensive force. Over the last 19 games played, the line combined for 26 goals and 34 assists. Prince led the entire B-Sens team in points with 65 total over 72 games played, while Schneider was the leading goal-scorer for the team with 29 over 69 games. Prince and Camper also tied behind Wideman's team-leading 42 assists with 37 each. Prince and Schneider both ended the season with their personal all-time highs in goals, assists and overall points. Camper notched his 200th professional point in the final game of the year and had a career-high 52 points overall.

RYAN DZINGEL & MAX McCORMICK- The two rookies out of Ohio State University joined the B-Sens for their first full professional season. Dzingel proved to be a strong offensive player putting up 17 goals and 17 assists along with leading all B-Sens rookies in scoring. McCormick had 20 points to put him second for rookie scoring on the B-Sens. McCormick also racked up 133 penalty minutes to lead the rookies and come only behind Darren Kramer on the entire B-Sens roster.

CALL UPS

ANDREW HAMMOND- Hammond received several call ups to the Ottawa Senators over the 2014-15 season with his final time up there being crucial to their playoff push. After being called up in both October and December to act as relief in short runs, an injury to Craig Anderson gave Hammond his third call up on Jan. 28. After Robin Lehner got hurt in the Feb. 16 game, Hammond came in as relief for a little over 20 minutes and had his first NHL start on Feb. 18. He went on to have a record breaking run with a 20-1-2 record which included back-to-back shut outs during the team's three-game sweep in California. Hammond led all goalies in the NHL (min 20 games played) with a 1.79 GAA and .941 SV% in 24 games played.

MATT PUEMPEL- Puempel was called up on Feb. 20 for his professional debut. He played in 13 games and had his first NHL goal on March 10 against the Boston Bruins. Puempel went on to finish with two goals and one assist along with a plus-8 on the ice. His season ended in March 23 following a lower body injury.

SHANE PRINCE- Prince earned his first NHL call up on Feb. 15 before coming back to Binghamton on Feb. 19. During his time up there he played in two games and had his first professional assist along with earning a plus-1 during his ice time.

CHRIS WIDEMAN- Wideman also earned his first professional call up on Jan. 2 but did not see any ice time and returned to Binghamton on Jan. 4.

JEAN-GABRIEL PAGEAU- Pageau began the season with Binghamton before being called up on Dec. 14. During his first call up he earned two goals and three assists over 23 games played. He played with the B-Sens during their game at the Canadian Tire Centre Feb. 15 before being called back to Ottawa Feb. 17 and spent the remainder of the year finishing with 10 goals and nine assists in 50 games played.

COLIN GREENING- Greening cleared waivers and spent Jan. 28 to Feb. 22 with the Binghamton Senators compiling five goals and two assists over 12 games played before returning to Ottawa.

BLACK ACES- Wideman, Prince, Fredrik Claesson, Buddy Robinson, Derek Grant, Scott Greenham and Chris Driedger were all called up to Ottawa following the end of the B-Sens regular season to join Ottawa during their playoff run.

A LOOK INTO NEXT YEAR

Luke Richardson's coaching contract is up following the end of the season. Richardson has voiced his desire to stay in Binghamton in the past and over three years has compiled a 122-82-11-13 record along with being the head coach during the 2013-14 East Division Champion run and two playoff appearances.

B-Sens players fans can hope to see back on home ice next year include Dzingel, McCormick, Driedger, Robinson, Alex Guptill, Troy Rutkowski, David Dziurzynski and Mike Sdao.

Throughout the season, the B-Sens made additions to the roster that may look to join again over the summer after finding some success including Gulliaume Lepine, Matthew Zay and Alex Wideman.

Many of the roster members will become unrestricted free agents over the summer: Chris Wideman, Alex Grant, Derek Grant, Camper, Aaron Johnson, Brad Mills, Patrick Mullen, Hammond, Danny New, Danny Hobbs, Lepine, Greenham and Peter Mannino.

Restricted free agents include: Garrett Thompson, Prince, Claesson, Darren Kramer and Schneider.
