A closer look-Connie Brown

Evansville BlueCats defensive back Connie Brown is making his professional football debut here in Evansville during the 2005 indoor football season.

So far his professional career has been a big success. Brown leads the team and the United Indoor Football League with 85 tackles so far this season. If he keeps tackling opponents at his current rate, he will stay on pace to break the BlueCats team record of 91 tackles in a season. He's also recorded 5 tackles for a loss, 8 pass break-ups and 2 quarterback hurries this year. Brown is second best on the team with 3 interceptions.

Evansville BlueCats Head Coach Ollie said, "Connie is a solid football player. I really like his style of play. I've been excited about getting him here to play ever since I started talking to him about coming from Las Vegas to play football here in Evansville. It's been very rewarding. He's a bright young man with a bright future on and off of the football field."

Brown is originally from Rohnert Park, California, where he played football for Petaluma High School. While playing for the Petaluma Trojans, Connie tied the California high school state record with 14 interceptions in a season, was a team captain, and was named defensive player of the year on his team in the 1997 season.

After high school, Connie Brown started his collegiate career at the City College of San Francisco. During his freshman year with the Rams in the fall of 1998, the team finished the season as national runners up losing in the title game to Palomar. As a freshman, Brown led his team in interceptions and had 3 picks in the title game earning him defensive player of the game honors.

During his sophomore season, the Rams rolled to a perfect undefeated season and returned to the title game and won the junior college national championship. Connie Brown had 2 picks in the title game.

Brown transferred to Alabama for the 2000 season and started in games against Auburn, LSU, and Mississippi State. He recorded an interception against Auburn.

He went to UNLV for the 2002 season and ranked 3rd on the team with 104 tackles, including a team leading 58 solo tackles. Connie Brown recorded a team and season high 16 tackles in one game against BYU. Also in 2002, Brown also recorded 5 tackles for a loss, 5 pass break ups, a fumble recovery, and was tied for the team lead with 2 interceptions.

Get close to the action this Saturday night at "Fan Appreciation Night" as Connie Brown and the Evansville BlueCats take on the Tupelo FireAnts at Roberts Stadium.
