East Kentucky Miners News Release
PIKEVILLE, KY. - University of Kentucky men's basketball equipment manager Bill Keightley visited Prestonsburg Tuesday evening for a Floyd County Chamber of Commerce tailgating social. During his stop, Keightley spoke with East Kentucky Miners Coach Kevin Keathley. Set to enter his first season as a head coach in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), Keathley joined Keightley as a speaker during the event. One of Kentucky's most recognizable individuals, Keightley expressed support for the Miners.
"After speaking with Coach (Kevin) Keathley, I truly believe the Miners will develop a great following and have a successful run," said Keightley. "Coach is energetic and excited about the upcoming season."
Keathley spoke first during the event. The East Kentucky Miners head coach spoke highly of Keightley and his storied career with the UK men's basketball program.
"Bill Keightley is synonymous with Kentucky basketball," said Keathley. "It's a pleasure to get the opportunity to talk with him. He was there with Coach (Adolph) Rupp and now he's there with Coach (Billy) Gillispie as a new chapter in Kentucky basketball gets set to begin."
As has been the case in many previous stops, Keathley also promoted an exciting brand of basketball he'll put on the floor when the Miners begin their debut season in November.
Keightley - through various recruiting trips and many other journeys - has witnessed passionate East Kentucky sports fans follow their teams loyally.
"This is the heart of basketball country," said Keightley. "Eastern Kentuckians love their basketball. Sports fans throughout the area get out and support their teams and show loyalty. I expect to see the same here with the East Kentucky Miners."
Gormon Collins, Jr. - General Manager of WQHY, Q95 FM in Prestonsburg - introduced Keightley. Collins referred to Keightley as an ambassador for all of Kentucky.
