Evansville BlueCats News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN: For the second game in a row, the Evansville Bluecats dominated an opponent at home. The Bluecats were up 19-6 at the half against the Tennessee Valley Raptors, and 33-6 entering the 4th quarter. Tennessee Valley did not score a touchdown until the 4th quarter with 9:26 left on the clock. The Bluecats defense kept the Raptors out of the end zone on their first 9 possessions. Evansville went on to win 48-24 in a game that wasn't as close as the score may indicate.

The Bluecats dominated in all phases of the game. In the first 3 quarters, Evansville had 228 yards of offense compared to 57 yards for the Raptors. For the game, Evansville's total net offense was 282 yards, and Tennessee Valley had 126.

The victory keeps Evansville a perfect 5-0 at home this season and improves the team to 5-2 overall. The Bluecats currently sit in first place in the UIF South Division. Tennessee Valley drops to 2-5 and remains in third place in the division.

Evansville Bluecats Head Coach Ollie Guidry said after the game, "I thought we played very well on both sides of the ball. We didn't give up any turnovers. On offense, to have nearly 300 yards for the night on that field is great and on D they only gave up 126, and most of that was late."

The Bluecats offense was driven by quarterback Ramon Robinson who completed 15 of his 25 passes for 188 yards and 3 touchdowns. The 60% completion rate and 188 yards passing are season highs for Robinson. He did not throw an interception.

Robinson hit a different receiver for each of his 3 touchdown passes. The first one coming on a 35 yard bomb to wide receiver Byron Curtis midway through the first quarter. In the second quarter, Robinson found receiver Sean Bennett for a 23 yard touchdown pass and in the third quarter, Robinson connected with Gerald Clark on a 29 yard touchdown play.

Coach Guidry said, "The receivers caught some big passes, all of those touchdowns were on big plays. The offensive line did pretty well, they didn't give up a sack. The line really helped us control the ball and let us pass more than usual. Ramon had time in the pocket and that led to his productive night."

Running backs Otis Shannon and Dale Jennings split the load running out of the backfield. Shannon ran 11 times for 49 yards and a touchdown and Jennings ran 12 times for 44 yards and a touchdown. Sean Bennett had one goal line carry where he scored on a one yard touchdown run. Jennings also had one pass reception for 5 yards.

Defensive back Tywaiin Dismuke had 9 tackles, 3 pass break ups, and one interception for the Bluecats defense. Connie Brown had 7 tackles.

Defensive end Richard Johnson had 1.5 sacks and defensive tackle James Beavers had a half sack. Beavers also forced a fumble.

Coach Guidry said, "The defense in the first half was outstanding. They only gave up 6 points. Connie and Tywaiin had big game and the defensive line did a good job pressuring the quarterback."

The first place Evansville Bluecats will play their first road game in 5 weeks next weekend when they travel to Sioux Falls South Dakota to take on the Sioux Falls Storm (4-3). Kickoff will be at 7:05pm at the Sioux Falls Arena.

The Bluecats next home game will be on Saturday, May 28th, against the Peoria Rough Riders. For tickets, contact the Roberts Stadium box office at 812-476-1383 ext. 25 or Ticketmaster. For the complete Evansville Bluecats 2005 schedule, please visit the website at www.evansvillebluecats.com.
