Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
FT. LAUDERDALE, FL (March 15, 2011) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers announced today that they have signed midfielder Mike Palacio for the upcoming 2011 season. Per team policy, details of the contract have not been disclosed.
"We liked what we saw out of Mike at the NASL Combine. We brought him into preseason and he has been doing very well so far. Mike can play a few different spots in the midfield. He is a very good passer and will add a great presence in our attacking part of the midfield," stated Head Coach Daryl Shore.
Palacio, 24, is a Long Island native who most recently played for the Serbian club, FK Radnicki Obrenovac. He had high expectations as the 21st overall draft pick in the MLS Supplemental Draft by the New York Red Bulls but his MLS career was short-lived when he tore his ACL. A season later, Palacio played for the Long Island Rough Riders (PDL) where he scored eight goals and assisting on four others in just 14 appearances. The Stony Brook University alum played two seasons for Radnicki Obrenovac.
