HARTFORD, CT - Monday, July 26 - The Hartford Colonials of the United Football League added linebacker Auston English to the preseason roster and removed defensive end Sean Conover.
English, an All-Big 12 selection at Oklahoma, played defensive end for the Sooners and registered 92 tackles and 18 sacks in 31 games. He signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in April before being released last month.
As a sophomore at Oklahoma in 2007, English (6-3, 250) earned Associated Press All-Big 12 First Team honors and was also named All-American honorable mention by Sports Illustrated. He had 36 tackles and 9 1/2 sacks that season for the Sooners.
The Colonials roster includes players from Big 12 football programs Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech.
Training camp starts Aug. 18 at Sage Park in Berlin. Practice sessions are open to the public and admission is free. The season opener is Sept. 18 against Sacramento at Rentschler Field in East Hartford at 2:30 p.m.
