Taryne Mowatt, Callista Balko & Cambria Miranda Make Their Glory Debut

University of Arizona stand-outs Pitcher Taryne Mowatt and Catcher Callista Balko, and utility stand-out player Cambria Miranda, formerly of Oregon State University, don their Washington Glory uniforms for the very first time at home tonight, as the Glory face the Venezuelan Olympic Team.
Taryne will take the mound tonight, and Callista will start behind home plate -- a very familiar image for many thousands of softball fans who tuned in to watch University of Arizona's battle this year.
Two-time ESPN ESPY winner for best collegiate athlete, Taryne, and Callista, 2007 First-Team All Pacific Region, made an immediate impact for the Glory last week in the 4-game series on the road against the Akron Racers.
In a very exciting series last week in Akron, The Glory took three out of the four from the Racers.
Washington started off the series on Wednesday with a 7-2 victory powered by home runs from Catalina Morris, Courtney Bures and Sara Larquier. The Glory also got a solid effort from starting pitcher Desiree Serrano, who gave up two unearned runs on three hits and a pair of walks in five innings of work.
Pitching was the key to Thursday's game with a dominating performance from former Baylor standout Lisa Ferguson. She threw a complete game shutout, while holding the Racers to just four hits and striking out five in a 5-0 win.
Amidst bad weather on Friday the Glory got an early jump on the Racers, scoring three early runs. The offense pounded the Racers while the pitching and defense completed the 11-0 victory that was finally completed on Saturday due to the severe weather.
In the series finale, Washington was silenced by Akron's Angela Tincher, who threw a no-hitter to prevent a sweep. Tincher was able to strike out nine and allow just four runners to get on base. Pitcher Taryne Mowatt and the Glory defense held them from scoring in the first six innings, but after a fielding error, then a wild throw to first with two outs and a man on third, the Racers were able to squeeze out a 1-0 win.
"We would have really liked to have the sweep, but feel like we learned a lot of what we will need to do in order to get to Angela Tincher when she comes to Washington," said Dever-Boaz.
